About Me

Gowun “Gonnie” Park

Hello, I am a Ph.D. in public policy and management. Along these lines, my research interests include, but are not limited to:

  • How institutional and technical environments offer unique contexts to nonprofit governance.
  • How nonprofit roles and impact can be evaluated and analyzed.
  • How government and nonprofits collaborate in contemporary society

Mainly, I am focusing on the following research topics:

  1. The effect of institutional, environmental, and organizational factors on nonprofits’ strategies and management outcomes.
  2. The organizational and societal conditions under which nonprofits engage with governmental and for-profit actors to advance their missions and ensure financial stability

Before earning a Ph.D. in public/nonprofit organization management, I studied political science and international relations at Korea University, Seoul, South Korea, and comparative politics at the University of York, U.K. I also did M.B.A. at Boston College and M.P.P. at the University of Chicago.

I worked in the social sector for several years, from a global health organization and a community foundation to a community development financial institution (CDFI) and a social enterprise.

Outside of academic life, I am an avid reader, writer, dog walker, and traveler. I have traveled to around 80 cities in 21 countries.
